Park Shore Country Day Camp now has

Culinary Classes for the Aspiring Chef!

Park Shore is proud to announce that Chef Paula from Cooking With Stars will bring her innovative culinary program to Park Shore for the Summer of 2019. Cooking With Stars at Park Shore is a morning program offering themed two-week sessions for aspiring chefs completing grades 1-5 as of this June. It will take place in the Culinary Cottage at Park Shore.

This program will inspire budding chefs to create delicious recipes each week celebrating new food holidays and themes. Chefs will explore the cuisines of Italy, Greece, France, and Mexico as well as American comfort foods. Students will learn culinary and plating techniques plus how to present their dishes. On the last class of each 2-week session, chefs will create and serve a meal for their families to enjoy with them. Students will receive a chef hat and apron, a food journal, and all recipes will be posted online with photos and step-by-step instructions. Appetizers, entrees, desserts, snacks, and brunch dishes will be created during each session. Chefs will also tend our vegetable and herb garden, care for and harvest fresh ingredients to make our food taste great!

According to Bob Budah, one of the owners of Park Shore and creator of Extreme STEAM Science Kids, “It is important for children to have opportunities to develop skills in critical thinking, collaborative teamwork, creativity and adaptability. After 10 years of successfully providing exciting and stimulating science programs for Park Shore and other camps and schools, he felt adding Cooking With Stars would be another exciting and unique way to enhance children’s life skills. Chef Paula shares the same passion to enrich children’s lives with her highly acclaimed cooking programs. As the world rapidly changes these skills will help children navigate through the future that awaits them.”

What Will Aspiring Chefs Learn and Experience?

Campers will explore the secrets of cooking and receive valuable insights into the culinary arts. Cooking With Stars at Park Shore is more than just learning how to cook – it’s a full program focused on skill development. Our culinary students will have the opportunity to learn and hone their skills in:

  • Food Hygiene
  • Mathematics of Measuring
  • Food Chemistry
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Nutrition & Health
  • Tools of the Week

Chef Paula especially loves how students in her after-school programs display confidence in the kitchen and open up their palates to new flavors and textures. Chef Paula says, “Parents are blown away that their kids are enjoying recipes containing asparagus, broccoli, black beans and tomatoes; ingredients they previously refused to eat at home. The students often report that their creations are the best thing they ever ate because our recipes are hands-on, fun to make, and great to share. We are bringing families together in the kitchen and around the dinner table. If we can achieve all of this in just one hour per week, we can do even more at Park Shore, working with the campers for three hours a day, five days a week. Get ready for an epic summer!”
