Congenital Heart Defects are the NUMBER 1 birth defect in the United States with 1 IN EVERY 100 CHILDREN born with a CHD every year. Even though we have had some great advancements in medicine, there are still over 2 million people living with Congenital Heart Defects today, and still 15% of children with a CHD will not live past their 18th birthday. CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS ARE THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF INFANT DEATH DUE TO BIRTH DEFECTS; 25% of children born with a CHD will need heart surgery or other interventions to survive. As common and deadly as Congenital Heart Defects are, the funding is not enough. CHDs are completely underfunded when comparing to how serious and common it is. Since there have been advancements in technology in recent years 85% of babies born with a Congenital Heart Defect will now live past the age of 18, but it is important to remember that CHDs can only be mended, and never fully fixed.
Having a CONGENITAL HEART DEFECT IS FOR LIFE & the child will always have a CHD, even throughout adulthood. It is scary to think that ONLY 15% OF CASES ARE RELATED TO GENETICS & and the rest are caused by unknown factors. With such a common thing affecting so many children each and every day, finding out what is causing these Congenital Heart Defects needs to be a priority. THE HEART COMMUNITY is one of the strongest, and that is why we will run, walk, jog, skip, dance or crawl this 5K to RAISE AWARENESS FOR CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS!

When: Saturday April 22nd, 2017. Registration starts at 7:30am. Race Begins at 9:00am. Event End Time is 12noon. There will be refreshments and entertainment after race.
