At a loss with what to do with the kids? Looking for something new and different? Try some of these activities with them and let us know how it goes!

High Energy
Dance! Just put on some music and dance away

Balloon tennis or volley ball

Bounce on a trampoline

Laundry basket & sock basketball

Invite some friends over and have a water balloon or water gun fight

Grab some chalk and play sidewalk hopscotch

Have a tickle wrestling match

Put on a party CD and teach them the Chicken Dance or the Hokey Pokey

Head to Tackapausha to see the animals or play in the outdoor playground

Create a house or spaceship out of a large cardboard box

Run up and then roll down a grassy hill

Put on the sprinkler and splash around

Look up an exercise video and work out together

Crumple up the circulars and have a paper snowball fight

Pick a bouquet and bring it to an elderly neighbor's house

Create buddy bags with stickers, an individual treat, and small toy to share with new playground friends

Borrow a bike trailer and ride along a bike path together

 

Entertainment

Learn some magic tricks

Blow bubbles

Create sock puppets and put on a puppet show

Play Old Maid or Uno card games

Create maracas from plastic eggs and rice or beans

Use a white sheet and a projector for a movie night outside

Put masking tape across the carpet or sofa and make a Matchbox roadway

 

Day Trips

Head to the playground

Visit the Westbury or Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Spend a few hours at the aquarium

Go to the Bronx Zoo and scavenger hunt for the animals on the map

Take  a walk around a local pond and feed the ducks

Walk along the beach and build a sand castle

Collect some "pet" rocks and paint faces on them

Find a great spot for a photo shoot

Find a great pet store and let them hold different animals

 

Experiments

Use medicine droppers to mix colored water and learn about colors

Make your own moon sand

Freeze colored ice cubes and paint with them

Make your own play dough

Create your own chalk sticks

Use clear glue to make a sensory bottle

Put drops of food coloring in piles of shaving cream and blend away

Change the color of flowers or celery with colored water

Jump colored water from one cup to another using paper towel strips

Make a popsicle stick catapult
